A Little Here, A Little There

I went out halfway in the Mookie, but decided to play in the Dookie. I was able to get my buy ins back and add a whole $7 to the bankroll. Watch out playa's!

Hey, I Didn't Bubble!

I finally broke my Donkament bubbling curse and made it to the cash. It was for a bronze, but I'll take it. Thanks to MeanHappyGuy for railing me and picking me to win. Four tits (QQ) were no good against bdidde and that crippled me too much to make a comeback.

A New Drink To Try

My buddy gave this one to me and it's awesome.

1 large can of frozen limeade concentrate
1 bottle of Corona (supposedly it doesn't taste as good with other beers)
1 12oz can of Sprite

Mix in a pitcher and fill the empty limeade container with tequila and throw it in. Stir and pour over ice. Trust me, it's good. I'm getting a little loopy on one right now while playing the Donkament.

Football is Almost Here

This weekend may be insanely busy for me, but next weekend will be filled with sitting on my ass watching college football. I not so patiently wait for this time every year beginning in early January. It is by far my most favorite time of year. The Olympics have been somewhat fun to watch with a few gripping and exciting moments, but for me nothing rivals the excitement of college football. I could go on and on about all of the great things about it, but let's be real - if you feel the same way I do, you already know. And if you don't share my enthusiasm, it would probably be lost on you anyway. I'll just say that I am happily and anxiously counting down the days to the start of the season. Though I'm excited about all the football that will be played next weekend, there is one game in particular that will have me glued to the edge of my seat, screaming at the TV, hopefully cheering with glee but possibly cursing and throwing things. My beloved Tigers (of the Clemson variety) will have a HUGE opening game this year against Alabama, played right down the road from us in the Georgia Dome. I'm getting nervous already! Damn, I can't wait!

Why Do I Do This to Myself?

It's Friday morning, and I'm tired. I'm tired because I've had a pretty full week, but it really hasn't even begun. Tonight we are having friends over for dinner. Last night I spent hours prepping so today when I get home from work I will only have about an hour's worth of work to do before our guests arrive. I love cooking and entertaining, but the problem is that I sometimes bite off more than I can chew. When I have company for dinner I want to be sure we have plenty of food, so I work myself into a tizzy planning the menu and then executing it.

So that's just the beginning of the weekend. Tomorrow morning I am getting up at 6:15 for a 15 mile training walk. I'm walking in the Atlanta 2 Day Breast Cancer Walk on Sept 20 & 21 (30 miles), and I've had several training walks over the past couple of months. I'm pretty used to the walking now, but it just takes so much time out of the day. I should be home by around noon - just in time to shower, have lunch and then make a pie to take to my book club meeting that is 35 minutes away at 3:30. I'll get home from book club just in time for dinner and cards with some friends. Now that's a full day. But wait, the weekend isn't over yet. I'm having lunch with a friend on Sunday, and after lunch we'll be browsing around Atlantic Station. I should be home mid-afternoon on Sunday, at which point I will most likely crash and burn.

I enjoy an active social life and spending time with friends, but sometimes I really just overextend myself without thinking about it until the time comes. It should be a fun weekend (with the exception of the 15 mile walk), but it will be exhausting and damn I'm already tired!

Tons of Live Poker

I went to Minneapolis for training last week and figured I would try one of their card rooms while I was there. Until I met Kajagugu, I never knew you could play cards outside of Nevada or Atlantic City. Now, I at least look and see if I can play cards when I travel.

While in Minneapolis, my coworker and I visited the Mall of America and rode the roller coasters after training one evening. This was tons of fun. The coasters aren’t as big as a regular amusement park, but the Farily Odd Coaster was more fun than most big coasters I have ridden.

The night before returning home, I drove over to Canterbury Park and tried my hand at 2/4 limit. In MN, they have NL tournaments and SNGs, but there is only limit cash games. This was new for me and I made a few mistakes throughout the night. Fortunately for me, I was able to still eek out a whopping $12 profit after 5 hours of play. I don’t think I played very well since I didn’t know when to chase and when to fold. I should have made more, but I will take the win and try to remember some lessons. An interesting thing about playing in MN is the 18 year olds at the table. After sitting next to a young kid for a while and noticing players at other tables, I finally asked about the minimum age to play. I guess since it is limit and alcohol isn’t free, they allow teenagers to play. Kids drive over from other states to play cash and tournaments. If you were an online pro and still wanted to get in some live experience this would be a good place to live.

Training ended Thursday afternoon and we headed to the airport. While waiting in line at security, we found out that due to air traffic control problems and storms in Atlanta, our flight was already delayed 1.5 hours. We were fortunate enough to get on the “earlier” flight that didn’t actually leave until 10 minutes after our original flight. I can only imagine how late we would have gotten in if we had to stick to the later flight. I know some of you travel all the time and are crying the blues for me and I appreciate that.

What is the best thing you can do after getting in to bed in the wee hours of the morning and going to work? Go play in a home game of course. We met over at Kaj’s on Friday night. We had much of the usual crew including Surflexus, his wife and Weak Player. Weak slashed and burned his was to victory and Mrs. Surf has cashed for the 2nd time in a row. I was able to make most of my buy-in back at the cash game and stayed out way too late. Thanks to our host for putting up with us for so long. The hosting curse continues for our man Kaj as he was first out in the tournament and got felted in the cash.

Stacie was out of town for the weekend, so I was able to play late in to the night again on Saturday at my neighbor’s. There was only 5 of us and we started a small heads up tournament. I managed to beat 3 of the 4 of my opponents. We only played one game each and then started up a cash game. I had some great cards and good calls to net me a nice return for my evening’s play. It felt good to have a week that added a little cash to the live bankroll especially after playing 3 nights and about 12 or more hours.
