Hey, Santa Brung Me a Mookie!

And let me tell you, he really gift wrapped one hand against NumbBono. I stupidly came over the top and pushed my A,K into his early position raise and was rewarded with 2 more Kings to crack his pocket Aces. I was trying to play the Dookie and the same time and I can't multitable well so I got too agressive, but my 7% was rewarded and I was able to keep the momentum. When Baywolfe and I got heads up, I was down at least 2 to 1 and was able to battle, bluff, and slow play my way to take the lead and ultimately my 4th Mookie title. It was a holiday shortened version, but a blogger win is a blogger win, right? This is the hand that pretty much sealed it. It's hard to get value on the flopped boat unless you opponent catches a piece of it too. Lucky for me he did. I'm sure my check on the flop didn't hurt getting a few chips.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Road Trip

HuntsVegas is having a big game this Saturday over in Alabama and Surflexus was kind enough to offer me a ride with him and “Peaches.” With around 40 people in the tournament, this is a great opportunity to end 2008 in the black. It will be a whirlwind trip. We will leave Hotlanta around 12:30 EST Saturday afternoon and depending on how deep we go, we will come straight back at the end of the game. My brother lives about 5 miles away from the game and his kids are out of town for the night, so we might crash at his place. We’ll just play it by ear, wish me luck.

Teh Suck!

I played like crap in the PokerStars freeroll and tried to play a little more solid in the Bodonkey. I did much better and almost made it to the final table. I shoulda bet the flop, but I was trying to be too sneaky and trap. What a horrible turn card! No board pairing for me and I bounce in 11th. Oh well, we'll see how the rest of freerolling week goes.

Home Game Excitement

The UGA boys opened up their final game to outsiders to give it more of a Main Event feel with a higher buy-in. We had 20 players and it awarded 500 bucks to 1st place and 4th would get you back your buy-in plus another 50.

I chipped up a little and was trying to pick up some of the blinds in the early levels while there was not much resistance. I wasn't getting the greatest cards so I could easily dump on flops with a lot of paint. Around the 3rd level, I raised from middle position with A,7 of clubs. Not my normal M.O. but people had been playing pretty tight. "Main Event" Mike came along for the ride and we saw a flop. With a flop of 10, 8, x and 2 of them clubs, I checked and Mike checked behind me. Sweet, free card! The turn brings a low club giving me the nut flush and I check again. Mike makes a good size bet at the pot and I Hollywood for a bit before pushing all in. I have Mike covered and he still has a fair amount of blinds left if he folds. He thought for a minute or two and makes the tough call since there is so much out there. I show the Ace high flush and he has a set of 8s. He needs the board to pair on the river and the home court advantage gives him another 10 for his boat. Booooooo! This knocks me down to 6 or 7 big blinds and my cards are so bad, I have to give up both the big and small blinds to preflop raises. I get A,10 on the button or cutoff and put the rest of my chips in. Chase says he knows he is behind, but has to call with 2 paints. King on the flop and I don't catch any of the remaining Aces or running cards for broadway.

I was the second or third player out and we wanted at least 5 for a cash game so I went across the street and got a spicy chicken sandwich from Wendy's. This is one of my favorite weekend treats. I brought my dinner back to the game and waited around for some more players to start up the cash game. While we were waiting one of the players was notified by a neighbor that someone had hit one of the cars parked on the street. The neighbor said he heard the smack and then saw the woman back up, turn off her lights, and then drive on through down the street. This put us on break while people could inspect for damage. I thought someone might have side swiped a few of the cars that were parked along both sides of the street. APOSEC72 and his friend Matt were the unlucky victims. When we saw the damage to Matt's 350Z, you could tell he had been hit square in the back end and this pushed him into APOSEC's Explorer. This chick must have been drunk, texting, or on the phone to hit his car like she didn't even see it. To wait on the police and insurance calls, this put us on a 2.5 hour delay.

I should have gone home right then, but I didn't imagine it would be almost 3 hours before we would get the cash game started. I played for another 2-3 hours and managed to only finish up 2 whole dollas. Not exactly getting my tournament buy-in back, but still fun.
Fortunately for APOSEC72 and Matt, the woman came by on Sunday and left her contact info. Ooooooooo, somebody's in troubbbbbble.

Best Rebuy Evah

Since Kaj's neighborhood didn't have their game Friday night and Stacie had already made other plans, I was able to play in Kat's rebuy donkament. I joined Joanada, Buddy, Muhctim, and NumbBono for some ridiculous web cam action with my new toy. I picked up a couple of webcams for a good price on Black Friday.

I was on too much cold medicine to join them in the brewed versions of alcohol, but we had a blast. It was especially fun when it was Jo, Numb, and I for the final 3. Numb was able to "see into my soul" and knock me out when I bluff pushed with the Jack Ace on a King high flop. He made the easy call with his King and since it was late for me, I declined to head over to PokerStars for some more action. I will however, not decline their invitation to join them on Buddy Dank Radio more often in the future.

Tis the Season For Poker

We got off of work early on Wednesday and took off Friday for a great long holiday weekend. Stacie, her mother, and I drove down to Dothan on Thursday morning and had Thanksgiving with Dad, my aunt and cousins. My aunt always makes my favorites like egg noodles, mashed potatoes, and a buttery squash casserole. Stacie calls it my plate of white and yellow starches. It is a meal I look forward to every year but I can’t always make it due to scheduling. We stuffed our stomachs, loaded up a cooler full of my favorite leftovers and then my cousin wanted to play some hold’em. 5 of us decided to play a $5 winner take all tournament. Only my brother had ever played with blinds so we had to show them the ropes. After some leisurely playing, I was able to take my family’s money. Nothing like free food and some extra cash. My cousin wanted to win his money back so after my brother headed back to Huntsville, we played another game. Stacie joined us for a little 4 person game. I got heads up with my aunt and we chopped so she could get to bed. She had to be at work at 5AM. Ahh, gotta love retail management. Stacie and I took my dad and her mom to IHOP for brunch and then we drove back to Atlanta Friday afternoon.

I made it home in time for a cash game in our neighborhood. I like these games because we do more bullshitting and cutting up than we do in tournaments since there is no clock. A downside of the casual cash games is that I tend to drink too much. This game was no exception. A night of Guinness and Tequila doesn’t do wonders for you the next day while you are watching your team get the crap beat out of them. Before I had too much to drink and we wrapped things up, I was able double my money due to some generous river cards. I would love to record these sessions because the things people say are absolutely hilarious. The line of the night went to Tom when he informed us that the doctors accidentally removed his taint during his circumcision.
