I'm A Thief

I stole this off of Kat's comments because I really wanted to remember this when I need to console myself.

Astin - "Remember - getting nailed by suckouts means you're playing winning poker."

I also have to remember to not get myself in to bad spots and allowing my opponent too many outs on the river.

Home Game Boys Give It A Shot In Vegas

Mike G, our neighborhood tournament points and money leader almost made it to the end of day 1 in the Main Event. He has the detail on his site. Way to go Mike! A great experience on a $13 investment.

Mike had some railbirds make the trip with him. These guys have been playing poker while tailgating at the UGA games for quite a while and are regulars at our Neighborhood Poker League. Mike H, from the neighborhood, along with Chris and Scott, played in some cash games and tournaments while they were there for the weekend. Mike H, made a great run at the noon Ceasar's tournament, but unfortunately bubbled at 19th out of around 250 players. He was very disapointed, but told me that he had used up his luck very early in the game by cracking AA with his KK and beating KK with his JJ. I am starting to realize why I only have 1 cash in the home game, he he.

These guys head over to Mississippi every now and then and I think I will have to budget some time and money to join them in the future. I wonder if there is a gambling charter bus that goes from ATL to Tunica, Biloxi, or New Orleans. I'm sure we could fill it with our home game and the ATL bloggers. I think I'll check in to that.

***UPDATE*** Mike G hung around Vegas for a few days after busting out of the Main Event. On Tuesday, he had a nice run and made it to the final table at the Ceasar's tournament and cashed for a little over 1 grand. Nice job Mike. I need to work on getting him to Full Tilt so maybe we can have a bigger ATL force for the blogger tournaments. ***END UPDATE***

Most of the ATL bloggers and I met over at Kaj's home game earlier this weekend. I was able to bring 4 others with me so we had a good turnout of 21. I busted out of the 1st tourney early, but made it back in the cash game. I even made enough to almost cover the buy-in for the second game (12 players) and only ended up down $6 for the night after I ran AQ suited into AJ. Yeah, I said ran in to because you know when someone takes most of their stack and calls your preflop all-in with the Hoy, you're SOL. I think Kaj had a small grin on his face as he dealt the flop with a Jack showing right out of the door. I immediately channelled Marco Traniello and flipped him off, LOL. I even showed a little emotion when I angrily said somethings about "getting no respect","my tight image", and "losing to the Hoy." Blah, blah, blah. Shut it, whiney boy! When did I turn in to Hellmuth? Congrats to Kuro for taking second. Don't worry, I'll be back for my beating next month and hopefully 23Skidoo and CC can make it for this one.

A Walk In The Park Down Memory Lane

I found this post in my drafts. Let's slap a silly title to it and put it out here where it's supposed to be.

Stacie took me to see downtown Greenville one Saturday back in May while she was still helping her mother. I have been going up to South Carolina with her for the past 10 years, but I have never seen the river area in Greenville. I had no idea how beautiful it was and they have a nice set of waterfalls and a park right off of Main Street. We usually head to the mountains to go hiking or see waterfalls, but we didn’t want to be too far away from her mother in case she needed us. I guess it is a good thing she didn’t take me when we were first dating because they have made it much nicer than it was even 5 years ago.

The natural focal point is the waterfalls on the Reedy River in the Falls Park. The man made attraction is the Liberty Bridge that was designed to allow better views to the falls and park. It is a really cool pedestrian bridge that is suspended from only one side and gives perfect views in to the falls area. It is amazing how different the area looks since they tore down the old 6 lane automotive bridge and replaced it with this engineering masterpiece.

We took a break from walking around the park and had lunch at one of the restaurants in the area. Smoke on the Water was a nice place and the food was good. The portions were not as large as we were expecting, but the prices weren’t high either. After lunch, we walked around for about another half and hour and then settled in to a swing to talk and catch up on the past month. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed our time together.

Catching Up and Some Freerolls

Congratulations to those that made the BBT leader board. I wasn’t able to stay in the top 50 and finished 60th. That’s OK, cuz I get to play for FishyMcDonk while he is on vacation. This is the disclaimer so people don’t start to cry foul when they wonder why Fishy is playing like an idiot and they can’t figure out his new playing style, hehe.

I have taken the week off (other than the Mookie, of course) from the real money online games. I have been playing over at Milbestlight.com trying to freeroll a seat to the 2008 Main Event. It’s pretty good odds for a freeroll with a 500 man winner take all tournament on Sundays for those that qualify. I just started middle of last week and wasn’t able to continue accumulating points on Saturday, so I missed out on qualifying. I think I should be able to do it this week. The play can be pretty bad, but if you use it to your advantage, you can still finish in the top 3 for the 10 man SNGs. I think I am 1,2,3,7,1,5 for my first 6 games.

Some fun hands to not in the past 2 nights. Very first hand of the SNG on Monday night, I’m first to act with AA. Since the first level is crazy anyway, I know I’m going to get at least one caller when I push. Sure enough, 2 come along for the ride and I’m up against J,10 and 6,6. I yell out “shit” when the river 6 hits, but the chips are shipped my way as it made the nut flush for me, HEE HEE. Gotta love runner, runner, runner, runner. I had 2 great chances to double in the one I played last night, but they didn’t pan out. First one was when I was milking trip queens and it turned in to the highest full house on the river. We both get it all in on the river and split the pot with the same pocket cards, SHEESH. When we got down to 5 handed and I was middle stack, I made a push from the button with A,10 after the first 2 limped. Way overbet I know, but sometimes you gotta do something crazy when you head into short handed, right? Of course everyone folds and I’m next dealt KK in the SB. Aha!, my setup pitch worked perfectly. 3 limps in front of me and I make it 500 with the blinds at 40/80. I was actually hoping for someone to look me up and call or push, but only UTG called. The pot is now over 1200 and I have about that much left behind so unless an A hits, I’m putting it all out there on the flop. The flop was not as clean as I would have liked. 4c, 8c, Kc. So I’ve got top trips but the flush draw is definitely out there. I push with trips and he calls with a red King and the Jack of clubs. I’m now begging for the board to pair, but of course the turn is a club and then another on the river, Boooooo.

If you’re into a little pain for a possible great payoff, give it a shot. I have the same screen name as I do on Stars and Tilt, so give me a shout. I tried to send out invites so I could get more points, but for some reason it didn't work.
